Sunshine and Rainbows Bonnet Pattern

Here is my newest bonnet pattern.  Perfect for those bright, sunny but still chilly spring days.  This bonnet has a happy sunshine on the back and a colorful rainbow arcing over the top.

This bonnet is made with worsted weight acrylic yarn.  You will need 2 ounces in light blue, 1 ounce in yellow and 5-6 yards of each color in the rainbow.  Use a size G hook for a 6 month size and a size H hook for a size 9-12 month size.

This pattern uses US crochet terms.  If you have any questions, leave a comment and I will do my best to help you out.

After sc the border into the end of the first 5 rows, ch 45, turn, sl st into the 2nd ch from the hook and in each chain back up to the bonnet. This forms one of the ties. Sl st back into the bottom edge of the bonnet to anchor the tie, continue the sc border around until you come to the 5th row from the front edge on the other side. Add the second ties as previously described. Continue the sc border to the front edge, fasten off, weave in ends.

This is a very pretty bonnet and with spring just around the corner it would be just darling for a baby girl.

  3. Hi! Making up this hat, and your video of the double-crochet decrease looks like a half-double crochet decrease. Curious if we're calling it something different, or if you meant for it to be a hd4tog. When I do a dc4tog I Yo and insert hook in the first st, yo and pull up a loop, draw through 2 loops, yo and insert the hook into the 2nd st, yo and pull up a loop, draw through 2 loops, yo and insert the hook into the 3rd st, yo and pull up a loop, draw through 2 loops, yo and insert the hook into the 4th st, yo and pull up a loop, draw through 2 loops, yo and pull through all 5 loops on the hook.

    Thanks! :)

    1. Round 7 says Ch1 video shows chain 2. Also, video shows turning, written directions do not say to turn.

    2. Row 2 says repeat row 8 but the written directions only go to round 7 before the rainbow.

    3. I'm so sorry my pattern is confusing at points. I have corrected the written pattern and put annotations on the video. Let me answer each of your questions.
      1. yes, what I called dc4tog/dc3tog should have been called hdc4tog/hdc3tog. I have updated the written pattern and put annotations on the video
      2. Round 7 should be ch 2, and also turning the work I have updated the written pattern
      3. Row 2 is a repeat of row 1, it was originally called row 8 in the first draft, I have updated the written pattern.

Please let me know if there are any other questions. I hope the bonnet turns out to your liking!

    5. What size G hook are you using? I have 2, and I started using my Clover G 4.0mm, but I think you might have used the 4.25mm. I think mine will end up a newborn size ;)

    6. I used Susan Bates 4 mm hook and Vanna's Choice yarn. 2"x 2" = 8 st x 6 rows of hdc. My baby is gigantic so I may have underestimated how big an average 6 month old is.

    7. Hahahahaa!! Okay, I only have big kids so maybe I'm overestimating the size ;) I'm almost done. I'll send you a picture when I've finished.

  4. I put a picture on your Facebook page. It turned out bigger than I originally thought, so I'm going with 6m as well. Thanks!! :)
